Adiri Natural Nurser vs. Born Free Bottle: What’s the Difference?

Both bottles are made of safer plastic, but each has a very different physical design. We did a little home-grown research on our own group of babies, and this is what we found.

Adiri Natural Nurser:

Babies who were breastfed most of the time did very well with Adiri. The reason is probably obvious, in that the shape and feel is the most like Mommy of any bottle we’ve ever seen. The primary goal of the Adiri is to provide the most natural feeding experience. Until we were able to put the bottles to the test, we weren’t sure if the goal would actually be achieved. In our experience, that goal was far outdone. For about 90% of babies, the Adiri was a hit right off the bat. The Natural Nurser also filled a largely unmet need for frustrated parents of finicky babies who refused most other bottles. It was simply a miracle in the situation of our totally breastfed nephew who refused every single bottle we tried – until Adiri came along. It was instantly apparent that he truly enjoyed the bottle; so much so that he even took it from his own Mommy.

Born Free Bottles:

Babies who were bottle fed, or were not too finicky took to the Born Free bottles very well. Many parents reported switching from Dr. Brown’s to Born Free with great success. The bottle’s unique venting system truly worked to reduce colic and gas in babies with a smooth, easy flow. It also provided a wide nipple base to allow for nice, open-mouthed feeding. Another great thing we liked about Born Free is that their spill-proof training cup spouts and handles are made to fit the baby bottles, too; so transitioning from the bottle to the sippy is gradual and more comfortable.

Both bottles have turned out to be fantastic options for concerned parents. As awareness of the dangers of toxic plastic grows, so do the options for safe baby bottles. I’m excited to see more and more baby gear designers working to create safer alternatives that are functional as well as safe.

  • Thanks for sharing the differences. I introduced bottles when my son was about 1 month old and he did really well. Slowly, I stopped giving him as many bottles because it was easier to nurse than to pump and feed him since I was at home. I'm planning to go back to work in a month or so after the holidays and guess what...my son is on a bottle strike! Now I am having the hardest time getting him to take a bottle. I may try the Adiri bottle since it is closest to me since the Born Free bottles are not working right now. They really are great bottles though.

I tried both bottles but sadly I had to give up on the Adiri nurser. It leaks too much when it's upside down. And you can't really warm it in water since water can seep in from the bottom. My baby likes sucking on it but he will suck so hard, you can hear him sucking in air at the same time.
  • Hi Vivian,

I'm sorry to hear you haven't had success with Adiri. Have you contacted the company directly to let them know of your troubles with the bottle? It sounds like you may have a defective bottle, as we use them with all of our children at The Soft Landing, and have never had any issues of this kind. Adiri is very responsive to their customer's input.

In my opinion Adiri are the best bottles on the market. My son is 8 weeks old and we intruduced Adiri bottle when he was almost 4 weeks old. He took it without aby problems. We have absolutely no leakage problems and honestly I have no idea how it is possible for this bottle to leak if all parts are properly assambled. When he was 5 weeks old I had to be away from him for 4 days. There was no feeding problems and transition back to breast went smoothly. Now I just went back to my work for part time only and we are interchanging feedings between breast and Adiri with my milk. He doesn't even see the difference between bottle and myself.I remember my 5 yr old son after transition to Avent bottles upon my return to work and few days trip to Europe did not want ed to go back to breast so I had to exclusively pump for couple months even on days and hours I was home with him. Thanks to Adiri design I don't have this problem with my new baby. Again-great concept and bottle, A +++
