Yes, natural rubber still contains the latex protein which is the biggest cause of allergic reactions. If your child has a known latex allergy, you’ll want avoid all latex rubber products.

Hi.

I stumbled across your site after searching for info on Sophie – I was shopping at my local natural toy store for a safe teether today and they had Sophie. I did not purchase because I was worried about latex allergies with a natural rubber product. Is this a concern?

Hi Chloe,

You prompted us to check on the new Sophie bath toy when you mentioned a #3 on the package. We have been able to confirm with Vulli that the new bath toys is made with PVC, and has been listed incorrectly by several other websites as being made from Natural Rubber.

BEWARE of the new Sophie Bath toy! It is very cute (comes with floater ring) and I thought it would be a great alternative… but guess what! The code on the back of the package is # 3! Even if that’s just the package, isn’t it just DISGUSTING that a company known for being so safe would package their toys in highly toxic plastic? UGH! Returning this item today…

Great info, thanks! Why would you mind if the teether is filled with water or non-toxic gel? Also, I’ve always wondered what the non-toxic gel is actually made from–do you know? I also wonder why water wouldn’t just suffice?

My little man is done with most of his teething so I never got a chance to test these out, but I think I’ll send one to my 6 month old niece to chew on. They are just so cute!

Wow! I never even thought about teethers on the airplaines! I think they are within the weight limit for liquids.
