The Center for Health, Environment and Justice (CHEJ) has launched a campaign to call for an immediate stop to the use of bisphenol-a in baby bottles and other food and beverage containers.  Their campaign is based on a study completed by The Work Group for Safe Markets, a coalition of U.S. public health and environmental NGOs (non-governmental organizations).  HealthyChild.org gives some background on the study in an article released today:

The test results of this study indicates that the United States’ current lack of regulation of bisphenol A exposes infants and children to potentially dangerous levels of this unnecessary toxic chemical. The study confirms the findings of the 2007 Environment California study that tested Avent, Dr. Brown’s, Evenflo, Gerber and Playtex baby bottles. All five brands of the popular polycarbonate bottles tested in Environment California’s study leached bisphenol A the range of 5–10 ppb.3 This report is the first dual-nation study to measure BPA leaching from baby bottles purchased from U.S. and Canadian retailers.

CHEJ has created a petition so we can begin to call for change right now!  Join us in signing the petition and urging friends and family to do the same:

Sign the Petition for Toxic-Free Baby Bottles!

Stand up for children’s health! Please send an important message to leading manufacturers of baby bottles:  Toxic chemicals like bisphenol A (BPA) do not belong in baby bottles!

As parents who care deeply about our children’s safety and consumers with purchasing power, we demand safer products!

  • There are lots of great BPA free options as well. Klean Kanteen offers a cute sippy and Green to Grow has BPA free baby bottles. Both will be available in the upcoming week at nubiusorganics.com (Klean Kanteen is currently) but they are available at other retailers as well.

Very exciting since just a few short years ago we had to resort to glass bottles, safe but breakable!!
