I have been wondering about where Tupperware stacks up on this issue. I have so much Tupperware, and a lot of it is microwaveable. Has anyone looked into them?

  2. Heather says:

Ziploc bags and plastic tupperware are everywhere. Are they safe??

Great question Qtipies 7 and Heather!

We’ve found the GreenG Guides most recent list safer storage alternatives here.

We’re going to make this helpful list available in a new post.

One of my son’s dishes is made of “melamine”. Is it safe to use? I don’t think it is recyclable.
    Thanks!

  5. Julie says:

I was wondering about the safety of melamine also. I found some confusing information about it on a couple of sites, but nothing very definitive. Some say it’s a safer alternative, but others say it causes kidney damage if ingested??

  6. Sarah says:

From what I understand, to ingest melamine you would literally need to grind it up into a powder and eat it that way. It doesn’t appear to leach any chemicals, although you shouldn’t use it in the microwave, just to be safe, since it’s basically made out of formaldehyde.

Great info. I’m just trying to get my head around all of this. I will probably end up tossing out all of our old plasticware dishes, sippy cups, etc. and buy new, just to be on the safe side, but there’s still a learning curve in discovering what I should buy when replacing the old. Thanks for your tips!
