Learning Your Way Around Bisphenol-a (BPA)

In breaking news, The Globe and Mail reported that Canada is expected to officially take a stance against the use of Bisphenol-a (BPA), making it the first regulatory body in the world to reach such a decision.
The conclusion by Health Canada that BPA is a possible threat, expected to be announced as early as tomorrow, will amount to one of the most important regulatory decisions regarding a single chemical in decades, and will put pressure on its counterparts at both the European Union and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to reconsider their approval.
As concerned parents, we created The Soft Landing in response to the lack of information about toxic plastics in children’s products in 2007. I was just wondering if softlanding is doing any research on canned food?
It was mentioned on the news that BPA is also found in cans, and so I started wondering about formula.
My daughter was EBF until about a month ago, and then I started to wean her to formula, using BPA-free bottles. But, now I’m wondering if that even mattered since there’s probably BPA in the cans of formula!
If there is any info, I would really appreciate it. And, thanks for this site! It is so great to have all this information in one place!

We are not currently focusing on BPA in formula cans, although we it’s a very important topic of concern. Simone pointed you exactly where we would have – right to EWG.org. They’ve done some great research and I’m sure you’ll find it helpful.

I’ve read about BPA free baby bottles and noticed that you do not include the Playtex Drop In nurser with the bag insert, why is that? Does the bag leach BPA or contain plasticizers? Is the bag harmful to babies even if the liquid is heated in glass botles and fed to babies in the Playtex nurser? Or is it because the bags are not good for the environment?
Hi Katie,
We do include the Playtex Drop-ins in our list on Squidoo. The Drop-ins are made from polyethylene, so they do not contain BPA.

does anyone know if playtex avance bottles have BPA in them? i can find a list of BPA free bottles but not a BPA FULL list.
found the answer on zrecs sight – full of BPA’s. off to turn in my bottles for new ones.
Hi. I have some First Years spoons, not the Take N Toss, but the infant spoons with rubber on the end that change colors when hot. They are called The First Years 3-Stage Spoon Set. I can find no information on whether they are BPA free. Can someone help me?! Thanks!
