Enviroblog: House Bill Would Ban BPA in Food & Drink Containers
A new bill, brought to the House yesterday by Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA), would ban BPA from food and drink containers, including canned infant formula. The ban would affect all canned foods, including prepared foods like soup and pasta which EWG tests found to contain some of the highest levels of BPA.
That’s great news, where I live (in Canada) they have taken all baby pacifiers, bottles, sippy cups, etc. that contain BPA off the store shelves. This makes it much easier to shop for those items but they haven’t done much about toys, feeding dishes, etc. so this is really good news. If there is an all-out ban in either country then the manufacturers will have to change all of their products and everyone will benefit!
That is great news. The we will only have to research toys, fedding utensils, etc.
I hadn’t heard about this one – I’ll be following this bill closely.
Finally someone is taking a stand on this issue. I still can’t believe how difficult it is to purchase BPA-free bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, etc. locally – even after all of the press about how dangerous BPA is. One really needs to plan ahead to make one’s BPA-free purchases online.
I just emailed Earth’s Best about whether there was BPA in the cans containing their organic formula. They responded that there is BPA in the plastic top, but there is none in the liner of the aluminum can.
