Well, shock my socks off!  We just confirmed with Phillips-Avent that they will indeed be introducing many of their well-known baby products in a new polycarbonate-free version.

Products due to arrive in September (may be available now in some stores):

  • Bottles: PES Bottle (4oz and 9oz) and Training Kit, Gift Sets (Newborn, Infant, Essentials)
  • Breast Pumps & Breastmilk Storage: PES Isis (On the Go Set, and w/ 4oz PES bottle), Isis iQ (Uno, Duo), and PES Breastmilk Storage Set
  • Pacifiers: Brand new line of  BPA-free designs (Bear, Transluscent and Free Flow)

We’re thrilled to see Avent’s response to widespread requests for BPA free options!

UPDATE 1/7/09: The new 4oz & 9oz PES Bottles, Training Kits and Freeflow Pacifiers are now available at The Soft Landing!

Wow! This is great. My Avent stuff has been sitting in a drawer for months now collecting dust.

Do we know if Avent will be selling replacement parts for those of us who already spent hundreds on the Isis IQ Duo or other pumps?

  2. Bee says:

I have used Avent with both my kids and kept everything for a future other one but with the new research about BPA showing up I decided to throw everything. I’m glad Avent finally caved in and decided to go BPA free too, because I really liked their products int he past.

This is great!! Do you know if the Philips Avent iQ24 Sterilizer is BPA free? Thanks a lot.

  4. Kim says:

I’d like to know about the sterilizer too. I stopped using my IQ Duo, but never thought about whether the sterilizer had any parts with BPA, since nothing on it is made with the clear plastic. Still, I’d like to know for sure.

Also, about Babies R Us taking back Avent bottles that were purchased from them…I have a bunch, but I no longer have the receipts. Does anyone know if they require receipts?

  6. Verna says:

Babies R Us does take the returns w/o a receipt. I did it over the summer w/o a hassle. They of course are not advertising this info, and the corporate office is not confirming this information.

  7. Kim says:

Thanks, Verna. I’ll be taking my stash back this weekend!

  8. Eliza says:

I can’t find definitive info on whether the Avent Naturally Nighttime Toddler Pacifier is BPA free. The nipple is silicone, and the handle and shell are a hard clear plastic. I’ve been using them for months and was about to buy more since my son is hooked on this kind, but if they are potentially toxic, I will try to find a substitute (even though he doesn’t really put the plastic part into his mouth). If these become part of the company’s new BPA-free product line, will you carry them? If so, can you let me know when so I can buy them? Thanks!

    Hi Eliza,

All of Avent’s pacifiers are currently made with BPA in the shield and handle.

We will definitely be adding their new line of BPA free pacifiers when they become available in the next month or two.

We’ll update the blog post as soon as we have them in stock :)

Thanks Alicia. Can’t wait to shop!

  11. Bee says:

I called Avent and I was told that their bottles, pacifiers and breast pumps contain BPA. Their other products like the sterilizer and bottle warmer are and have always been BPA free.
But, are their products phthalate free?

  12. softlanding says:

    Hi Bee,

We haven’t officially researched the original Avent products, but from what we’ve heard (ZRecs.com), their products are free of phthalates.

We have only confirmed their new line of BPA free products and know that they are definitely free of PVC and thus phthalates.

I cannot wait for the BPA free pacifiers to come out! I read this blog months ago and found out that his fav. avent pacifier contained BPA so I went through a slew of other brands and he wouldn’t take any of them! He only uses one at night and nap but I just can’t stand knowing that he’s been exposed to more BPA than we would have liked. We will be switching out his avent pacifiers for the new BPA free version as soon as they hit the shelves! Thanks for all the research you are doing and helping to make our kiddos safer and healthier- it is much appreciated!

  14. Sarah says:

I bought Avent pacifiers labled BPA free today at Target. Whoohoo! Finally! They look identical to the old ones but say “BPA-Free.” They are plastic #7 w/ copolyster, which is apparently a BPA-free plastic in the same class as #7 with BPA.

  15. softlanding says:

    That’s GREAT news, Sarah!

We get to wait until January to add the new BPA-free pacifiers to The Soft Landing, because our name doesn’t start with “Tar” and end in “get” :)

    Oh well, maybe someday . . .

Good News! I just got back from Target and Avent finally has the BPA – free pacifiers on the shelves!!!! I check every time I go into a store with Avent products because the alternative I have found is so hard to find. Thanks Avent for responding to consumer demand!

  17. Rebecca says:

Just got back from Target myself and I too found the BPA free pacifiers on the shelt.. Yipee!!

  18. Sammi says:

Does anyone have a clue about the AVENT Tempo- Disposable System Natural Feeding Nurser? I tried going to Babies R Us to purchase it, but they say that they cannot sell it to us!
